Assessing Written Reading Response Writing

Students may write longer responses to reading.  They may answer an open-ended question such as a text dependent analysis question or prompt/task.  Just like the Stop and Jots, longer written responses will provide a variety of information showing how the student processes text, as well as, thinks beyond the text.

Included in this product are several rubrics for assessing and evaluating written reading responses. The rubric is separated into 5 categories: Focus, Organization, Content & Analysis, Style and Conventions. The first included rubric includes a scoring formula if you so choose to use it. The second included rubric does not include the scoring formula if you wish to create your own or are not using this to provide a numerical score. The smaller following rubrics are divided into each category from the larger rubric to use for focus on specific aspects of response writing.
